The big afternoon sun, welcoming hugs with back-packs still on.

After a hard day on the pilgrimage roads, I finally managed to reach a village where we were to stay. Our fellow pilgrims who had arrived ahead of us often gave us welcoming hugs while we still had back-packs on our backs. During the day all of my fellow pilgrims and I shared the same roads, walked under the same sun, and suffered the same hardships. Without a word, just by hugging each other, demonstrated that we understood and shared the pleasure of each othersf achievement.

The big Spanish sun, sinking in the west but still severely hot, wrapped us all in its big heart.

Spring water, resting the walking sticks under a tree.

What is most important on a pilgrimage is the drinking water. When the water bottle is empty and we are suffering from thirst, the water at a spring or water fountain is truly life-saving. Then we find ourselves renewed and ready to go on walking again. How we appreciate the existence of water!

When pilgrims find a spring, they stand their walking sticks under the nearby trees and drink of its water to their heartsf content. A moment of peaceful rest for the pilgrims is also a time of rest for their walking sticks.

A summer hat is following its shadow.

Since the Santiago pilgrimage roads lead us to westward, we have our shadows in front of us in the morning and behind us in the afternoon. Therefore, our shadow more or less guides us in the right direction. Usually shadows give the image of following a person, but sometimes a person is led by his or her own shadow.

In real life, a shadow may sometimes lead our way, and we walk on following the shadow. A shadow is the creation of each individual person, but there is so much for us to learn from this noumenon.

A pinnacle of the cathedral enticed a fierce thunderbolt.

Along the Santiago pilgrim roads, we find many beautiful gothic-style cathedrals. One day when we had a sudden thunder shower, I was watching outside. I saw a thunderbolt hitting the cathedral as if it were drawn toward the pinnacle piercing the dark sky. It appeared as if the pinnacle had attracted the thunderbolt.

People gathered at the cathedral to ask for their salvation. The thunderbolt hit the cathedral as though it was the godfs anger. It was an intense moment in which I felt as if I saw another face of the cathedral.

Freshly cut grass, a road of godfs fragrance appears.

There are many old pilgrim roads that become thickly covered with summer grass. When the villagers finally cut the grass, the real roads appear. And the suffocating fragrance of freshly cut grass hangs thickly over these roads as we walk.

The road of pilgrimage leads us to god, and the powerful summer grassfs living fragrance hangs over the road. If god has a fragrance, I think this might be it.
