Winter bee, crawls out from the dust in the corner.

A winter bee crawled weakly out from a small mountain of dry leaves and dust that had been swept together. It appeared to be on its last breath as it waddled about with no more power to fly. But it seemed to be saying, "I am still alive, don't put me with the dust! "

I'm sure it will not live long, but even so, at this moment the bee is certainly not a dry leaf or dust. It clearly has "a life".

From that poor old winter bee that waddled out of the mountain of dust, I felt certain that I saw the light of a small but determined will to live.

Spring neighbor, even ill in bed, I polish my nails.

I composed this haiku when I was ill in bed with a liver problem. I was not allowed to go out or see anyone, but as a woman I did not want to neglect my personal grooming. I used to enjoy myself as much as possible in my sick bed.

"Spring neighbor" means that the spring is very near, so it is a season word for winter. With the changing season I hoped for a recovery from my illness. As I painted my fingernails, my heart was filled with hope for the new warm season.

Wishing and wanting to see you, I step on the thin ice.

Oh, how I wished and wanted to see you, but you were a person I could not see at will. With the tip of my shoe I played with the thin ice that had frozen on a small pool of water. I did not know what to do with my feelings of wanting to see you.

When two people fall in love, it is sometimes possible for them to see each other whenever they want. But with me, I did not have the courage to go see him, so I stayed at the edge of the thin ice.

Like the thin ice in the early spring, my feelings were so fragile that with a small shock they would have broken apart.

This is one of the haiku I composed when I was hopelessly in love.

Love oracle, reading in the light of the spring snow.

When the plum blossoms began to bloom in early spring, I visited Yushima Shrine in Tokyo. I saw a love oracle booth near the corner of the shrine. Snow had fallen that day and everything was white with spring snow around the shrine. As I opened the love oracle's writing, suddenly the bright light reflected from the spring snow shone upon the words of the oracle. The oracle's message in the bright light was one of happy new love to come. The dazzling light of the spring snow seemed to be shining for the wonderful future.
