Babies crawling, wobbly steps holding onto things, in the fragrant breeze.
May is the season of the beautiful new leaves.
The breeze that blows through the young leaves, gives off a cool freshfragrance.
A day nursery has its windows wide open to let in the cool dry air of earlysummer. Inside, many small lively children are playing. Some babies arestill crawling, some are barely walking by holding onto things.
Their developmental stages vary, but the cool breeze blows equally on eachone of them. It is as if the early summer breeze is playing with thechildren, wishing them good health and watching them grow.

Even on Mother's Day, mothers remain unchanged.
The second Sunday in May is "Mother's Day".
We express our appreciation to our mothers by sending them a bouquet of carnations or presents, helping them with the household tasks, or taking them to restaurants. By sending our mothers presents or helping them a little with the household tasks, we feel as if we have done them a great favor.
But when we think about it, it was still our mothers who got up earliest in the morning, who made our meals, and who went to bed last after the daily housework was done. Even on Mother's Day, they work hard because, as usual, there are so many things to be done for the family.
Because our mothers remain unchanged, we can rest easy in our hearts.

The fragrant rose, it was named after a movie heroine.
There are so many different kinds of roses. Each time a new kind is developed, a new name must given to it. Not only the appearance, but also the fragrance must be beautiful. The rose is truly the "queen among all flowers". Even their names compete in beauty.
Once I was walking through a rose garden. I stopped in front of a rose named "Cathrine Deneuve". This rose had a lovely fragrance just as it was. But as soon as I found its name was that of a famous French movie actress, the rose seemed more splendid with a noble fragrance.

Young leaves on the vine, the casket departs as if tearing itself away from them.
After the funeral ceremony is finished, the hearse with the casket leaves
the house on its way to the crematorium. The hearse gains speed as if to
tear itself away from the young leaves on the vine and from the people who
are bidding their loved one farewell. It seems as though the loved one on
his last journey is tearing himself away from his lingering attachment to
his beloved home, to his family and to this world.
The new green leaves on the vine are full of life. These young shiny leaves
enhance the deep sadness of those who are left behind.

Red cherries remind me of long ago when I dreamed of my wedding day.
Red cherries are such a pretty shape and color, so sweet and a little sour in taste, and a little high in price. When I was a girl, I felt as if cherries were pieces of jewelry. They were too precious to eat right away, so I would swing them by the stem, look at them or play with them on my tongue for a while. I would play with them for such a long time before I finally ate them.
Now I am grown up and I still like cherries very much, but I am no longer able to treat cherries so preciously. As a child I would look at cherries and dream of my wedding day. Now as a grown woman I look at cherries more realistically and think that my dream is no more than a dream.
I wish I could put a cherry in my mouth feeling the same way I felt as a young girl.
