昨季2度目のア・リーグMVPに輝いたドジャース大谷翔平投手（29）が27日（日本時間28日）、ニューヨークで開かれた全米野球記者協会（BBWAA）ニューヨーク支部主催の「アワードディナー」に19年以来5年ぶりに出席し、全文英語でスピーチした。前回のスピーチで掲げた“公約”こそ果たせなかったものの、全身ブラックのスタイリッシュないでたちと流ちょうな英語で喝采を浴び、世界中のファンを魅了した。

全米記者協会（BBWAA）の皆さん、このような素晴らしいイベントを主催し、そしていつも我々を歓迎していただき、ありがとうございます。
私に投票してくれた記者の皆さま、ありがとうございます。権威ある賞をいただけてとても光栄です。投票してくれたすべての皆さまに深く感謝します。
また、受賞者の皆さま、おめでとうございます。皆さまのご活躍、そしてご出席されている皆さまのキャリアを祝福します。
エンゼルス球団、オーナー陣、フロント、そして全スタッフへ。この6年間ありがとうございます。あなた方のサポートと、私が情熱を持っているこのゲームをプレーする機会を与えてくれたことにいつも感謝しています。
年間を通して私を助け、励ましてくれたチームメートとコーチングスタッフ。皆さまのサポートを毎日ありがたく感じていました。
